Application of reservoir simulation to environmental problems. Color shows the simulated distribution of contaminated water invading a soil of heterogeneous permeability initially containing both air and water. The simulation was carried out on a cluster of workstations with a multiphase code using mixed finite elements in space and finite differences in time.
