UTCHEM
University of Texas Chemical Compositional Simulator

General Information

UTCHEM, the University of Texas Chemical Compositional Simulator (copyright owned by The University of Texas at Austin), is a three-dimensional, multiphase, multicomponent, compositional, variable temperature, finite-difference numerical simulator. The code can run on a variety of Unix workstations and Windows PCs. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) at the Waterways Experiment Station, Vicksburg, through the Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program (SERDP), and previously EPA and the state of Texas Advanced Technology Program sponsored the development of UTCHEM for groundwater applications such as:

The Department of Energy's National Petroleum Technology Office and industrial affiliates sponsor the development of UTCHEM for oil field applications such as:

Feel free to look over the User's Guide and Technical Documentation for a more detailed overview of UTCHEM's capabilities:

Acquiring UTCHEM

UTCHEM-GUI 9.82 is currently available for download free of charge.

This version of the program has been run extensively on computers running the Windows NT, 2000, and XP operating systems. The UTCHEM-GUI program will not run on systems running Windows Vista; Microsoft dropped support for the graphics engine (GRID32.OCX) used by the UTCHEM-GUI program. We use Microsoft Excel (2000 and 2003) to process 2D output files. We use Surfer 7 from Golden Software (we have reports from Golden Software that Surfer 8 also works with the program) and Tecplot 9 from Tecplot, Inc. to process 3D output files. You will need to have those programs installed on your computer if you wish to do direct output file processing with the UTCHEM-GUI program.

If you would like to download the latest version of UTCHEM or the FORTRAN source code for the program, please fill out the UTCHEM Information Request Form. A message containing download instructions will be sent to the email address you provide. If you have a problem with the form or do not get an email response back within a few minutes, please contact Joanna Castillo (jlc@mail.utexas.edu) and let her know.
